Position: Senior Electrical Development Engineer
Location: Clevedon, North Somerset
Salary: £37,000.00 – £42,000.00
Job Type: Permanent
Our client has an opportunity available for a Senior Development Engineer within its ETO (Engineer to Order) Electrical Team.
The role will involve:
·Working within a team alongside Project Engineers, Mechanical Engineers and Mechanical Designers to deliver designs and supporting documentation varying from concept to full production machines.
·The need to work with various other departments including Documentation, Technology, Purchasing, Operations, Quality and Manufacturing.
·Project teams will vary in size from 3 to 10 people, none of which are direct reports.
·Each Project is led by the Project Engineer who oversees the day to day activities of delivering the project.
·The role will report into the ETO Lead Engineer for functional management.
·Supporting the Clevedon ‘Engineer to Order’ (ETO) process through the design and development of electrical and controls solutions to fulfil customer requirements.
·Working across functional teams to provide fully engineered design solutions.
·Producing schematics, wiring schedules and loom diagrams in a fast paced development environment ensuring high quality designs which comply with regional standards and regulations.
·Implementing hardware interlocks to ensure safe machine operation.
·Creating and maintaining Bills of Material in support of both new designs and existing products.
·Carrying out design calculations as required to provide justification for design solutions.
·Carrying out component selection for design solutions, ensuring that all key requirements are met.
·Creation of new part numbers, their definition and supporting documentation.
·Identifying the need for validation testing and carrying out all related tasks from planning and conducting testing to report writing.
·Applying a sound understanding of Engineering Change Control processes and appreciation of the knock-on effect change has to other departments.
·Carrying out peer reviews of engineering designs and their supporting documentation.
·Providing support and guidance to more junior members of the electrical team.
·Acting as the technical point of contact for the ETO electrical team.
·Achieving project goals based on providing deliverables for customer orders.
·Assisting manufacturing engineers and technicians with queries and issues during equipment build and test.
·Delivering quality information to allow the creation of Manuals, Spares Lists and any other input required by both internal and external customers.
·Working within company processes and procedures.
·Supporting on-going quality process improvement projects.
·Working in a safe and effective manner in compliance with the Company’s Health and Safety policy and ensure that the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act are met.
Education / Experience / Skills:
·The right candidate will have a good electrically biased Engineering degree or other engineering qualification depending on candidate experience.
·Good level of experience in a relevant control system design role.
·Experience of working within a system or equipment design or development environment.
·Experience of design and risk analysis techniques such as FMEA, HAZOP, DFMEA etc.
·Experience in testing of equipment in support of design.
·Experience in applying Engineering Change Control practices.
·Previous experience of Product Data Management software would be an advantage.
·Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical.
·Excellent attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality with a right first time approach.
·Good problem solving ability and design discipline with a suitable approach to all aspects of design.
·Ability to perform engineering calculations in support of proposed designs.
·Good teamwork, customer / peer interaction and communication skills, both written and verbal.
·Understanding and application of Engineering Change Control discipline.
·Should be self-managing and motivated with the ability to plan and estimate the duration of assigned tasks.
·Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities whilst maintaining quality of output.
·Positive attitude with a pro-active approach with the ability to work under pressure.
·Understanding of Piping and Instrumentation diagrams and system schematics is preferred.
·Knowledge of CE marking and EN standards (Machinery and Low Voltage directives desirable).
Scope of role:
Engineering – Design and develop engineering solutions from customer specifications for a variety of Systems.
Producing supporting documentation including:
·Accurate Bills of Materials.
·Component selection justification.
Personal Skills – Building partnerships with customers, external and internal staff.
Results Orientation – Focus on delivering to project milestones and timescales.
Commercial Awareness – Understand when to re-engage Product Management or Customer Centres.
Problem Solving – Ability to solve problems both in-house and on customer’s site.
